For Sale or Best Offer

Does this look like a "For Sale Sign" to you?

It might if you were 5 years old

I might if you were 5 years old and your home was 1800 feet from a proposed coal plant site.

And your parents made the heart-wrenching decision to sell the only home you've ever known. All so you would never have to live 1800 feet from the largest coal-fired power plant your state.

Would you cry and beg your mama to not to put that sign in the yard at your new home?

Because you don't want to move again.

And leave behind your friends.

And your swing set.

And the house that has your height marked off in pencil on your closet door.

When you are five and live on the front lines of coal, a simple yard sign can mean absolutely everything.

  4. So powerful! I would move too; even though it would be so painful and hard for my kid to understand!

  5. Wow! I don't blame you. Your child will thank you in the end.

We live on a small acreage surrounded by city and development. Not the same as a coal plant but we would hate to ever be forced to leave our little piece of paradise where my husband and his father were raised and now we are raising our kids. Best of luck!

  7. Thanks y'all. For the record, this post is not about me....it's about another mama who lived right where they want to build the plant. She fought for a long time and has now moved. She still fights and is a dear friend and hero. My family is still here...8 miles from the site. We are self-employed and work locally, so leaving isn't easy. But if we don't defeat this that's what will have to happen.
